These are clips I found on youtube of a 2D walk cycle's/interaction I think they display quite a good sence of the uderstanding in weight and timing this would be a good example to base my 3D walk cycle on also the looks of the characters and there design's in question are each different example's and also have a very unique style.

“We would like your students to design and animate some characters for us for a potential animated advertisement for London Zoo. We are thinking about using a visual style that reflects traditional “Claymation” techniques but will be generated using CG processes. The characters should be worked up from the following list:”

1. Willie Billiams – “A hyperactive nine year old on his first visit to London Zoo with an obsessive interest in creepy crawlies.”
2. Pocahontas Billiams – “Willie’s sister, she’s seven years old but much more relaxed and more knowing than her sibling. She wants to be a gorilla.”
3. Wilhemina Billiams – “Willie and Pocahontas’s grandmother, she thinks everything smells bad and is worried that a chimp or one of those nasty bonobos might escape and “Poo in her hat.””
4. Wee Eck McGlone – “London Zoo’s long suffering head keeper sixty, bald, curmudgeonly, Scottish, fiercely patriotic and obsessive about sweeping up dung.”
5. Cornelius – “A middle aged silver back gorilla, the most civilised and sensible occupant of the zoo by far.”

“Your students should consider the following points when working through their character designs:”

“If they work in 3D then they should concentrate on two characters from the list per animator.”
“If they work in 3D then they should be using one of the major 3D packages, i.e. Maya, Lightwave, or Max. The characters should be fully modelled to a maximum resolution of about 100,000 polygons, decent texturing is vital, we won’t accept a model alone at this stage. The model should be rigged”
“We expect to see support work on paper, development drawings and character sheets that should include orthogonal views, i.e. front, back, top, and side, and a more expressive drawing of the character in a typical pose.”
“We would like to see some expressive animation sequences that demonstrate the functionality of the rig and also character performance.”

These are screen shots from Maya of the light house I modeled with textures from filter forge using the cylindrical mapping for the base of the building and planner mapping for the turret and the windows.

Lighthouse Lights

Let there be light, this is just an example of the kind of lights that will be in the lighthouse, I used spot light and chang the colour to yellow to give it a more lighthouse texture and used track editor to rotate them. HARE :)

The Lighthouse

This is a 3D representaion of the lighthouse I found on google. The only things I have changed are the colours to give it a more lighthouse image, and I have gotten rid of the structure around the top of the light. The use of this object is to hide the chain for the crane arm. For the textures I used a web site called Filter Forge, they have quite a varied range of textures from metal walls to magma.

We have been looking to put the contraptions on small islands in the sky I think this is a great example of what we are looking for. I think the modeling, character and object animation is top not to metion the exteiors are amazing in size and depth also the contrast between 2D and 3D is very intresting same as the the song thats top too.

Starlight

One of my favourite songs with some of the best textures, animation, character design and just plain originality, The varstness and richness of enviroments for such a small amount of time and how old it is (1997)!!!! this just shows you don't have to have a huge story to become succsessful this video was what made the song starlight a massive hit and sold many copys, very weird and inspiring a real mile stone in short animation.

Rube Goldburg Japan Advert

The examples shown here are adverts in japan the way they have used very small objects is very intresting and using most of the objects natural rhythm, weight and gravtiy and in such a small amount of time and including the music/tune gives it that extra punch that I really like.

3D Four Legged Monster

This is the smoothed example of myfour legged monster, It was modled with one shere for the body and another one for the head and then grouped then joined at the vertasies it has not been rigged yet and this is just a tempory texture but the bacis of the model is there and I am confident that when rigged and weight painted I will look and move without failt I will load a fully textured front, side and back view when louis is done with weighting it.

Gramaphone Test

This is just some test animation i've done to see how well all the components work in sinc with each other,The have work quite well the cog, hampster whell, convaor belt and poll components where animated using tracks editer and the arms where animated in key framed I plan to animate the gramaphone using blendshapes to give it a more animated and bouncy fell while playing music.

The Sliver Spade

This amazing dinosaur of a crane/digger is called the Siver Spade from this picture it does not look like much but its classed as one of the ten greatest machines she started her work in 1965 USA near cadiz, Ohio and still is working today at 7,000 tons, 200 feet, taller than a 12 story building, 13,500 horsepower at its peek and take about 7 men to operate it she also had a sister digger theGem of Egypt dissmanntled in 1991-1992, she is the last of a dead breed of machine.
I would like to get the same felling of size and pressance these ancient machines create the amount of depth and texture it must have at a close look must be great sound I think should play an important role to get the arcayic sounds of the gears and engin as a fan of enginering this will be a great enjoyment to base my work on a machine like this im looking forward to designing and modeling.

Gramphone Model

I have modeled a kind of Rude Goldberg esk line of cogs and levers to start the bottle moving in the most obscure way by using one of the characters in the hamster wheel part of the contraption to start things moving and as a bonus play music to help the mood I will up load a movie clip soon.

My nebour Totoro has near as make sno difference some of the best fantasy animal design I have ever seen the contrast between Totoro rawing and being quite scary fom being helpful, loving and caring work very well I hope to get some sort of contrast like this with my characters.

Houl's moving castle is one of the best animated films I have ever see it is visualy pleasing in backrounds and in object/characters I hope to create a beast looking structure to go with my crane arm this is a great example of combining organic and indusrial comonents the wood and steel make an intesting contrast.

The snake kind'a design I thought was quite an intresting element to the project as he is creepy and funnyat the same time, it would be quite a challenge to animate i'm thinking some sort of crane aspect to him. at the same time the other design was just an afterthought but still quite likable.

These darwings I think display a sence of diversity, life, simple design and charm which I am aiming for with my characters, all there personalitys and attitudes are all different as you can tell by there jestuors (going down) Happyness, Depression, Fear and Intrigee. I like all the aspects of each character but the down side of most of these charaters is most likely going to be the riging element of the design but I could be wrong it has been known.

The monsters are a hard consept to get across becuse I have to come up with a style of creature that is

(1) Quite easy to model
(2) Look disfiguring and some what horror like
(3) Have to be impresionable and pleasing to the audiance in just a few seconds

The bottom two seem to meet all the present critera

CVA 201 project.

Hello to Red Hare Productions blog, I will be posting some intresting examples of work form the coming project on interaction with enviroments.
First off I will explain about the name People who know me know about my most disstigusing feature so I thought that will be a great name for my blog name so here it is the RED HARE PRODUCTIONS BLOG. This is the first time I have ever done a blog so i'm just tring to get my head round how everything works.
The main reason behind this is to recored my progress in to the coming project this requires a lot of attetion and time ha if I had that this would be twice more intesting, indepth and spelt right.
This project involves groups of 3 to 5 people co-operating slitting up the work load should not be so hard as I am working with two close friends Dan and louis they live together so I will just go round their place as the have no car and I don't live to far away but the the problem will be the work scedual as I work almost every day after college "but nothing easy was ever worth doin" as I say.
So I would live to take some infuence from my trip out to Japan last summer with friends from class Dan, Solman, Alex and Chris the design over their was amazing from the cute character point of view so I will incorperate this with the work,
but I am a huge fan of Hayao miyazaki and picaso there work is mostly abstract work in the case of there character studies may be I can combine the two and come up with some intresting character designs, I will get pen to paper and see what happens when I get home from work of course if i'm not to tired.
